Post King betta
I was at Petco today and they had the most beautiful Bettas I've ever seen. They were huge male Betta Splendens with short fins. The body was just plumb chunky they were so big. But alas my three boys weren't willing to give up their homes so I could bring one home. King Betta is whats printed on top of the cup. So is this a different type of betta? or what?

I saw this on the Monster Fish Keepers Forum. Conclusively its either a large B. splendens or it is a B. raja.

Thanks Cory :) On the cup it says B. splendens but you know how Petco is. They were just stunning. If I'd had an empty tank or a place to put it I would have just because it's so different. I wonder if the Petco there or in Chattanooga has them.

From the images I have seen of B. raja, I do not think that is the fish.
I googled both king betta and betta raja and came up with nothing useful.

Ross and I are headed to Atlanta on Sunday.
As we travel down, we will check it out.

Cool! Just the shape of the fish was really nice. Thumb size(my thumb ;)) thick bodied and wide from bottom to top. The B. raja I googled looked slimmer.

I figured out a place to put one ;) and went back today to take another look. when we were in there before there weren't any prices posted for Bettas. When I asked they said they were $14.99 ! :o I didn't get one but boy was I shocked! They aren't gonna sell them for that.

well I'd be interested...just spent $30 on a black round tail I found at our lfs. If they had females of the same sort I'd be even more interested! :) Are they just giant bettas that were renamed for the pet store? the giants are generally about thumb size from what I see on aquabid.

No females. Since I had spent $17 on Corys yesterday and $18 on plants today I didn't figure a $15 Betta that was a little ragged today was in my budget :) Oh yes I would have liked to have had him and he would've cleaned up nicely. but I just couldn't do t :?
